May 5 inaugurates the twelfth edition of European Photography in Reggio Emilia.
The 2017 edition will take you to the emilian city: 30 exhibitions, 5 original productions, 10 exhibition venues where meetings, shows, workshops and more than 200 appointments will take place. The calendar is rich for the opening days, but exhibitions will remain open until July 9.
The theme of this edition “Time Maps. Memory, Archives, Future “is to question the relationship artists have with historical archives, meaning to have an unprecedented mass of data if these data are to be considered acts of the present or future past. Photography is measured this year with memory and with its infinite reinventions in the digital era. Do not expect documentary interpretations, you will be stupid from the creativity and criticality of the artists.
Not to be missed is an exhibition, an ideal path to follow, starting from Palazzo Magnani, here the exhibition of Paul Strand and Cesare Zavattini: A country. History and Heritage; where original photographs, author reprints and unpublished photographs are collected from the most prestigious international museums.
The Chiostri di San Pietro will host exhibitions dedicated to the study and archive of Gianni Berengo Gardin, to the projects of Fabrica by Benetton Group, to Joan Fontcuberta’s project, a historic focus on South Africa (host country of this edition) and the Special Diciottoventicinque project.
